Is it just me, or the latest advances are meaningless? I mean, a few years ago there were ground effect, turbo, electronic suspensions, traction control, eletronic differential... now... this? A new slit???

These kind of changes seem meaningless, but they really are useful and make the car slightly faster. If they were meaningless, why would they invent these small aerodynamic changes?
The rules for F1 cars nowadays are very strict, so major techniques like turbocharged engines etc. are not allowed.

But isn't it kind of funny that Wurz finished in the podium in Canada with a broken car? He lost pretty much of his backwing in the beginning of the race and was still able to complete the race. See the right part of it right besides the tire. Are those side parts totally useless? And we have seen many other times that a driver finishes the race with a car that has losen some aerodynamics parts, so I guess their pretty useless.

I'm sure they provide some kind of advantage... but, I see today's cars and they're filled with small flaps everywhere... they seem pointless, turbulence generating devices to me.
The cars should become way easier, simpler, aerodinamycally speaking. Otherwise, the engineers will stay on this "find the perfect slit" path, and not going for the true advances.
The things I mentioned before are, many of them, on today's road cars. I don't see Ferrari or Mercedes Benz taking advantage of the new "slit" on their latest models.

Yeah, some cars broke their back wings without being damaged (2003 or 2004 barrichello in hungary) and last year Albers so williams is a strong car, made out of titanium

You have a point. To many parts hanging off the car. Eventually they will bring in the same chassis rule, and hopefully take these measly bits off.. Lets see whos the champ then.

Everyone in the same chassis wouldn't be good for F1. F1 should be about who builds the best car and bringing in new technology which eventually ends up in road cars. If everyone had to use the same chassis it would take away a lot of F1's charm. IMO the rules should become less strict and go back to the time of innovative and very diverse looking cars.

Btw, seems that this year there wasnt any mirrors loosing, while last year there were 2 i think, one of kimi at shanghai and another one ...so the cars are defenetly stronger...
